Beautiful Malaysia (Part 4)

Last week we talked about the food and the temples, now we are going to see how their malls look like and the interesting craze they had there! Malaysians loooove Baskin Robbins. Do you know that? I certainly had no ideaaa! When I saw how in love they were, my jaw dropped. Seriously... read on to be surprised!

Next, we see the malls. The architectures in the more luxurious malls are very impressive.

I was surprised to find a Forever 21 all the way in Malaysia. I thought it was a North America franchise... guess I am wrong.

Baskin Robbins. My goodness. That franchise is going MORE than successful in Penang. It's crazy how people lined up to buy Baskin Robbins. I am not too sure but apparently on a certain Wednesday of the month, you can buy Baskin Robbins on a little bit of discount. This is what it looks like. A bit of discount and gazillion customers. It's crazy. I mean I look at the price and it's not as if it's free. It is still quite expensive for any Tom Dick and Harry to buy it as though ice cream is going extinct! I have no words to express the disbelief I had experienced standing there, watching everyone fighting for ice cream.

Anyhow, leaving that aside, it was quite an experience! Ouff!

This is another shopping mall we visited was Straits Quay. Granted, this is a mall for the rich. Everything there is super expensive and the interior looks like a top-notch hotel. I went there during work hours so of course, it's very deserted. Also, it's far from the super crowded city and it's located on an artificially made beach. Very gorgeous. The atmosphere is soul-relieving. Do go!
A relative opened a nail polish/design shop there called the Blossom Nail Spa. Omg... the service is excellent. I was pampered like a queen. I definitely give the shop two thumbs up!

If you shop at that mall, I swear you will feel like you own a big manor in the mountain, waking up to the sea every morning. Beautiful place.

Next, we will be visiting the beach! Omg. The beach is like none other! It's breathtakingly beautiful. What better beach to go other than an entire island designed to be a vacation beach island? Stay tune and subscribe for more!

Beautiful Malaysia (Part 3)

Prepare to have the breath knock out of you! Behold this stunning beauty that left my jaw dropped.
We have already seen plenty of interesting stuff about Malaysia (Life and Food) but there are so much more to explore! Let's hop on our blog-mobile and speed off!

And of course you can't go to Penang and not visit their famous Buddhist temple: Kek Lok Si. Currently the impressive front gate is under renovation. It's truly a beautiful place. Very peaceful. At night, pretty lights will brighten the temple to a truly magical castle. Definitely, you got to go there when you visit Penang.

Just magnificent. This is where Buddhists mediate. The golden bowl is where they place the incense sticks. You can also purchase (donate money) the candles. No, these are not orange juices. They are candles which you can either buy home or pay respect to the deities. Very beautiful. The atmosphere of the place is just soul-relieving!

Beautiful Malaysia (Part 2)

Let's continue with our adventure in Malaysia! Now, we will explore the more trending areas! What kind of food you can find and fancy places Malaysians go. So let's follow this path and see what lies ahead...

This is a seafood restaurant right next to the sea. It's a gorgeous short path. As you walk on the planks, it's like you enter another world. The soft waves rolling beneath the 'bridge', rocking the little boats fastened on the shore... just beautiful. I didn't actually eat there, just passing through. If anyone is interested, the restaurant is located at the end of Gurney Drive (Penang). It's a shore where locals and tourists go to enjoy the breeze and gaze upon the horizon.

For this week, I will show you a very popular cafe shop chain calls the Old Town. Yes, it's one of the hyped places the older folks go because the meals are more expensive than the side-walk food stalls. Surprisingly, you can find the brand Old Town Coffee at an Asian grocery store in North America! My mom absolutely loves that brand and would drink just that! The currency is about 3 times cheaper than Canadian dollars. So let's look at Garlic Butter Toast which costs RM 3.30. It would be approximately $1.10 Canadian! It's so cheap to stuff ourselves silly there with delicious food!

You get to see how the chefs prepare your meal. It's like Starbuck-ish... Old Town specializes in coffee. So I was surprised when they served the local food as well! Like in North America, we eat muffins with coffee. In Malaysia, you eat a proper meal with coffee. How interesting is that? Different culture, different style!

This is the traditional tea in Malaysia! It's called the Teh Tarik! Super fragrance. It's like a mixture of sweet tea and coffee. Strongly recommended to try out. No need to add our own sugar or milk. it's all in there. Gorgeous and all! They even served with the traditional saucers! I love it!

I know this post is pretty short... that's because I'm preparing a biiiig post for next week. You're going to love the upcoming posts. Here is one sneak peek of Paradise on Earth! Oh la la~

Beautiful Malaysia (Part 1)

So summer is almost over. I just want to show you a trip I made to Malaysia. It's a beautiful place with a whole different culture and lifestyle. The place in part 1 took place on a small island called Penang. Fly to Malaysia and feel the fun!

When my family landed, it was night. This is how dawn looks like in Penang. You notice the mixture of green and concrete. It's not uncommon in Penang because there are still villages every here and there though the number is quickly shrinking. Old villages are being demolished to build new apartments and shopping malls.

You can see the coconut trees (yes Penang is famous for their coconuts that seem to be able to grow just anywhere).  You see the little villagers walking about in their village. Children playing tags around the trees. The roads in the villages are very narrowed, so only motorbikes can squeeze through, making it not so dangerous to play on the roads.

Beautiful pool on above ground level. At night, lights will shine from the bottom upward. It's gorgeous!

Now we are at the "wet market" meaning it's not the supermarket but the natural "village-ish" marketplace. Merchants sell all sorts of things there: Meat, vegetables, snacks, local dishes, cute accessories, pirated stuff. Locals who are familiar with the prices are able to bargain like crazy. Here we see a vendor who is selling coconut juice. Yummy!

This is one super delicious pastry that I strongly recommend any tourist to try out. It's called Ban Chang Kuih. It's like pancake except it's super crispy. It has flour, butter, coconuts, peanuts and corns. Oh god, sooo good! My favorite snack ever! You can buy a big size for RM 0.80 (that's like $0.25)!!!! Super cheap and super good!
